THE CHALLENGE
Create and grow a geek culture magazine, community and live event platform.
GEEKPR0N was a passion project started by the founders of our sister company, Nerd North Media. Founded in 2009, GEEKPR0N was officially launched online May 4th, 2011 as an entirely female-run blog. This was the key differentiator in the male-dominated geek blogosphere; a place where women geeks can come and feel at home, where skill and knowledge define your nerd cred, not gender or cliques. Geek solidarity is the core reason GEEKPR0N exists, and we hope it’s making a difference. 2700 articles and a series of recurring live events, GEEKPR0N grew to be the 3rd largest geek blog in Canada according to the National Post.
This was the first site we built on our managed WordPress platform, and one of the first magazine sites we built, that spawned our development endeavours. For this site we had to build traffic payout plugins, custom dashboard reporting, custom author pages and more.
The result? 300k in monthly reach with a 160k monthly readers and a string of sold-out live events.
For version 2 of GEEKPR0N we wanted to take an 8-bit design approach along with a futuristic dystopian font influenced by some Star Wars propaganda posters we had seen. This was used across all website & social channels along with broadcast at live events for FanExpo and more.

Here, you will find geeky opinions/editorials, comics/movies/tv/gaming news & reviews, cosplay galleries, costuming tips, convention coverage and GEEKPR0N’s growing events.
